   Karen is a sixteen-year-old foster child who was placed in permanent foster family agreement with foster grandparents who have been a licensed foster family for many years. They offer Karen much emotional and physical support, as Karen came into the system a victim of extensive neglect and abuse.  Caring About Kids rented a trombone for Karen for two school years.  She joined the school band and later the marching band.  In 1998, Caring About Kids funded a band and flag camp for Karen. Karen is now a member of the Flag Corps at high school football games. She needed tremendous structure, guidance and support to develop appropriate social and interpersonal skills.  Caring About Kids provided participation in positive school and social activities that has increased her self-esteem and improved her behavior.
